An Experience Beyond My Expectation, Global Youth Economic Opportunities Summit, Washington D.C

Exceeded my expectations – experienced in a developed country where everything equips with high technology, well organize and cosmopolitan people. I was really impressed with participants who were from various sectors including U.S. government agencies, private sectors, young leaders and INGOs with different expertise from 54 countries.

The Global Youth Economic Opportunities Summit was organized from 28th -30th September 2016 in Washington D.C provided great networking and transferable knowledge centered on these three aspects: Research (peer learning), Reactivated (inspired) and Relationship (connections).

It was an excellent workshop- very upbeat and held the attention of all delegates. I personally learnt a lot from practitioners and experts. The theme on “Scale in Practice” really stood out for me. SCALE – how to do it – Entrepreneurs, SME development - changing national curriculums and it is importance to include financial education and advocacy on the national curriculums. Financial Education is the key to enable job, star-up and loan access for the youth.

The Summit was an amazing opportunity for me to talk with other implementers and experts in the development space. I am pleased to have walked away from the Summit with valuable connections and potential new partners such as Making Cents International and Master Card Foundation. I believe from the workshop, I could bring new ideas to improve youth saving for change project in Cambodia where I’m currently managing.
