Originally from Kampong Thom Province and having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2006, Sophaneth has been working in the field of finance with several local and international NGOs. Recently, she joined Oxfam in order to contribute to social development through its Enrich projects .
Finance—The Backbone of Program Implementation
Sophaneth works in finance in the operations office, which involves her in the payment process, data entry, cash advancement, program budget management and other staff operations. “Although I don’t work in program implementation directly, I feel proud to be a part of social development through my finance skills. Finance is the backbone of program implementation. When the finance is managed right, the program activities will go smoothly and effectively,” asserted Sophaneth.
Beyond the Finance Role
Despite being in finance, Sophaneth also gets some involvement in fieldwork with the operations team. “I have a chance to enhance my knowledge through opportunities offered by Oxfam for me to learn and get hands-on practice in my skills,” she explained.
Working with an international organization that is doing its very best to help solve social issues is what motivates her.
