"Oxfam is like my second home. It supports me to learn beyond my role and responsibilities. It builds my self-confidence in my work," said Samnang who joined Oxfam in 2011. Before joining Oxfam, he was with CARE for nine years.
Beyond the Role as a Driver
Samnang not only works as driver, but he also helps with operations and logistics work, including booking hotels, preparing workshop materials, getting quotations, taking photographs and other maintenance tasks in Oxfam. "I will help with everything I can because I love Oxfam as my home and everyone in Oxfam as my brothers and sisters. The manager here gives me a lot of opportunities to help with other jobs apart from my main work. Working for Oxfam helps me become flexible and know how to communicate better with other people," said Samnang.
The Reward-An Aspiration and a Value
Samnang finds that he has many opportunities to grow. He regards the good-performing staff award from Oxfam as an achievement and inspiration for him to keep working hard. "It's not about the reward, but it's about how people here treat me. The staff in Oxfam treats me well and equally and they give me a sense of value. Oxfam also gives the opportunity for capacity-building by providing me a budget to study English," said Samnang.
