Oxfam together with Cooperation Committee for Cambodia (CCC), NGO Forum, Health Action Coordinating Committee (HACC) and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) have mobilized a campaign to reach out to 1 million supporters to send a message to World Leaders that When Covid-19 vaccine is found, it must be free and fairly distributed to ALL people in ALL countries. This campaign was also aimed to raise awareness and encourage social dialogue on the demand for eventual vaccine to be made for free to all people including developing and poor country like Cambodia. The campaign was launched on social media on 21 May 2020 and it lasts until 20 June 2020.
We are excited to report that in just one month, the campaign has reached 1,663,620 people, exceeding the goal of 1 million by 66%.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to you, your organization, family and friends for your partnership and participation in this “Free Covid19 vaccine for ALL”. With 1,663,620 supporters and many more, we urges World Leaders to ensure free and fairly distribution of Covid-19 vaccine when found to everyone on the planet. We will continue to advocate to realize this objective at the global level and we will keep Cambodian public informed.
Just a week after the launch of this campaign in Cambodia, United Nations leaders also called for global effort to develop and distribute to all at affordable prices vaccines, treatments and testing kits against Covid19.
During the recent Special ASEAN-Russia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Covid19, Cambodian government told ASEAN foreign ministers that all countries need to have unhindered and timely access to quality, safe and affordable medicines and vaccines as global common goods.
Although the virus does not discriminate against rich or poor, when it comes to treatment and access to a future vaccine, we know that the most vulnerable people - in particular women, girls, and the poorest, will most likely be pushed to the end of the line. It is therefore critical that, if and when a vaccine is developed, no one is left behind. If we are to fight against this virus and end this pandemic, all individuals should have access to free vaccines.
