Today, Oxfam and Women Peace Maker signed an agreement with the Ministry of Justice to support a program to strengthen mediation skill of government official at sub-national level.
The program with Oxfam aims to achieve three outcomes: 1) develop three policy papers including minimum requirement to acknowledge the standard of government mediators for sub-national level, code of conduct of the government’s Mediators at sub-national level and operational guideline for Legal and Local Conflict Mediation Office of the Ministry of Justice. 2) raise awareness and provide training on legal instruments and administrative operation of target provinces (10 provinces and cities) which are former judicial service center. 3) Provide training on mediation skill to government officials of Mediation office and mediate local conflict in Kampong Thom province.
Ms. Sophoan Phean, Oxfam National Director, said, “I’m very delighted to be part of this important event where Oxfam renew our formal commitment to be part of the key strategic partner of the Ministry of Justice to deliver Oxfam vision in building a community free from poverty and injustice.”
Oxfam believes that these policy papers will provide a clearer direction to local mediators to improve their mediation skill following the operational standard which is a key foundation for expanding and bringing access to justice services closer to the communities.
Oxfam will continue to prioritise an investment in Cambodia not only on supporting the Ministry of Justice on strengthening mediation skill but also focusing on other two programs on social protection for vulnerable groups, women empowerment and inclusive green economy. This is our commitment to joint the government effort for a sustainable development.
